Refugee Alliance is supporting Aida Youth Center in providing educational and sports opportunities to displaced children and youth in Aida refugee camp in Palestine. Together, we can ensure that refugee children have access to quality education and can play in a safe environment.
The Education Program
Good education is crucial for the future of Palestine and the Palestinians. The aim of the education program is to improve access to education and increase the quality of education for refugee children.
For many refugee children, educational opportunities are limited. The schools the children attend are overcrowded, and few resources are invested in their academic development. In addition, the children suffer from traumas that negatively influence their learning.
The education program was set up in Aida refugee camp to not only fill gaps in students' learning, but to help develop analytical and critical thinking skills. Moreover, the program helps students develop intrinsic motivation, learn important life skills, and become more resilient. These are qualities that will serve them for the rest of their lives. They also spend time with a social worker to process their trauma and learn healthy coping mechanisms.
The education program values alternative learning experiences outside the classroom, allowing the children to learn about their heritage and land. Throughout the year, Aida Youth Center organizes field trips, summer camps, and activities for the children, so that they can experience life outside the camp and see their country.
The Football Program
Refugee Alliance is also supporting Aida Youth Center in the development of football programs for the children within Aida refugee camp. Since there are few spaces for children to play safely, many children end up spending most of their free time on the streets of the camp. The football program provides a safe and supportive environment where children can relax and play together.
Through sports, children have a positive outlet for their stress and a chance to escape the difficulties of daily life. In addition, football is also an excellent vehicle to learn teamwork, integrity, and self-discipline. During the sports training session, we challenge harmful gender stereotypes, work on building transferable skills, and teach children about creating lifestyles that are healthy for their bodies and minds. So, in addition to providing the children with a space to simply be children, the football program empowers both boys and girls to become confident young leaders.
The education and sports programs will not only help the children enrolled in them, but will create a ripple effect as the children go on to positively impact their community.
Please donate to invest in Palestinian refugee children’s futures!
