Winter Campaign with Aida Refugee Camp
This winter, support children from vulnerable Palestinian families in the West Bank.
In collaboration with Aida Youth Center, we have launched the ‘Dafa’ (meaning warmth) project. We are fundraising to provide children from Aida refugee camp and other struggling communities in the area with packs of warm winter clothes and humanitarian aid.
Our ‘Dafa’ Project
The situation in the West Bank has seriously deteriorated. Many families have lost their primary source of income and are struggling to make ends meet. The coldest months of the year in Palestine are starting, and many families are unable to buy winter clothes for their children. Therefore, we are providing up to 600 children in the area with a pack of warm winter clothes. Each pack contains a winter coat, warm shoes, a sweater, a winter tracksuit, a knitted hat, a pair of gloves, and five pairs of socks. The cost of each winter pack is set to be $75.
Additionally, we will be providing food packages to families, diapers and formula for families with babies, and insulin for those suffering from diabetes. Food packages will be distributed to families in need for a total of $37 for each family for a total of 100 families. Diapers and formula will also be distributed to suffice a total of 600 babies, each costing $50. A donation of $73 will cover the cost of a month's supply of insulin to assist residents of the camp who suffer from diabetes.
Aida Youth Center
All humanitarian aid will be distributed by volunteers from our Partner Organization, Aida Youth Center. Aida Youth Center is a grassroots organization located in Aida refugee camp, near Bethlehem. The Center was founded in 1968 to serve the local community – especially its children and youth. Today it is a community hub that aims to improve living conditions for camp residents through several programmes and projects, all led and executed by the local refugee community.
Aida Youth Center has three core programmes, serving around 300 children per week: a sports, music, and education programme. In addition, the Center coordinates humanitarian aid in times of crisis, and supports vulnerable families in the area. Last year, when the need was already high, the Center provided 600 children in Aida camp and other vulnerable communities with similar winter packs.
Aida refugee camp and the other areas
Aida Refugee Camp was established in 1950 by the United Nations for around 1,200 residents. Today, the number of refugees has increased to more than 5,500 people in an area less than 0,071 square kilometers. For nearly 75 years, Aida’s inhabitants have lived in overcrowded houses, with poor infrastructure and services.
Our emergency aid is not only limited to Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem, but also areas like East Jerusalem, Masafer Yatta, Ramallah and Tubas. We are currently working with local schools to identify children whose families cannot afford to buy them winter clothes.
Warm Winter Clothes: Coats, gloves, hats, scarfs, boots.
